Midline and Extended Dwell Catheters for IV Antibiotics

چکیده

Midline catheters may be associated with longer uncomplicated indwelling time and a lower overall risk of catheter-related complications than extended dwell catheters.
The rates were low across different peripheral catheter types.

Silastic catheters for antibiotics in cystic fibrosis.
A randomised comparison of percutaneous Silastic catheters and conventional intravenous cannulae for giving intravenous antibiotics in patients with cystic fibrosis showed that Silastic catheters were favoured by the patient, lasted longer, and had fewer complications.

Randomized controlled trial which aimed to verify whether the use of vascular ultrasound (VUS) increases assertiveness in the use of peripheral venous catheter in children, and the catheter dwell time, when compared to traditional puncture. Data were collected after approval of theethical merit. Children and adolescents undergoing VUS-guided peripheral intravenous (GVUS) or puncture guided by c...
متن کاملExtended- Versus Narrower-Spectrum Antibiotics for Appendicitis.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Appendicitis guidelines recommend either narrower- or extended-spectrum antibiotics for treatment of complicated appendicitis. The goal of this study was to compare the effectiveness of extended-spectrum versus narrower-spectrum antibiotics for children with appendicitis. METHODS We performed a retrospective cohort study of children aged 3 to 18 years discharged betw...
متن کاملUltrasound-guided “short” midline catheters for difficult venous access in the emergency department: a retrospective analysis
BACKGROUND Acutely ill patients admitted to the emergency department (ED) constantly require at least one fast and reliable peripheral intravenous (PIV) access. In many conditions (morbid obesity, underweight state, chronic diseases, intravenous drug abuse, adverse local conditions, etc.), PIV placement may be challenging. Ultrasound guidance is a useful tool for obtaining a peripheral intraven...
